About Pirates Cove Diving, Inc.

For the past 54 years Pirates Cove, at the corner of 11th and Oklahoma Ave, has dedicated itself to the needs of both skin and scuba divers locally and nationally. Our expert staff, along with the latest equipment, provides the professional as well as the novice with the answer to their needs.

In 1979 Jerry and Sandy Guyer bought the dive store and have continued the tradition of promoting the sport of scuba diving. Additional instructors Bob Schaefer and Mike Timbers joined the teaching staff. With the help of Gil Kasmeric we set up our first dive charter boat the "GJ Venture" and started running shipwreck charters to the half dozen known shipwrecks in the Milwaukee area. After 4 years we moved up to the "LEN-DER" a Coast Guard certified small passenger vessel. Now we could accommodate dive groups up to 26 divers at a time to visit the Milwaukee area shipwrecks. To meet the growing interest in shipwreck diving several side scanning sonar systems were purchased to locate and discover more shipwrecks. Through more than 40 years of side scanning in the Milwaukee area, I have 60 dive sites.

PADI Open Water, Advanced, and Specialty Classes are taught all year. Classes are small and you will have fun while you learn to dive safely. Call or stop in today to get started! We look forward to getting your SCUBA adventures started with us.

Jerry Guyer has been an active scuba diver for over 60 years and a PADI Master SCUBA Instructor for 45 years. He teaches many SCUBA classes each year, as well as doing marine salvage work from his workboat Len-Der. He is a U.S. Coast Guard Captain with a 100 ton Masters License. Through his 45 year tenure of running shipwreck diving charters in Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, he has helped thousands of people discover the adventure and thrill of shipwreck diving.

Another great passion of his is researching and locating lost shipwrecks in Lake Michigan. Using the latest high definition side-scanning sonar technologies, he has found and located over two dozen shipwrecks in Lake Michigan. He is a retired high school teacher and lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife Sandy.
